A Pig's Tale: Pig Named Six Seven Spared by Miami Dade County Leader.

It might not have been at the same level as granting clemency to Thanksgiving turkeys, but the Miami-Dade County mayor conducted a ceremonial pardon event this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“The swine has done no wrong. She deserves this act of mercy. Her criminal record is spotless,” Levine Cava said in a speech with inescapable allusions to the vast quantity of executive clemencies issued since the onset of a second term in office.

“Except perhaps for eating six or seven apples per day,” the mayor added. “May this pig enjoy a prosperous future free from concern.”

This ceremony, which both honors and questions the area's customary feast of feasting on pork during the holidays, was established to replicate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.

The pig, contributed by a local firefighter, was christened after the current slang trend of young people shouting “six-seven” – deriving from a rap song lyric – often without clear purpose. The trend became so widespread that a leading lexicon site recently declared “6-7” its top term for the year.

A Future Secured

The pardoned swine is now set to enjoy its days at a rural sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the organizers' announcement.

“The pig pardon has become a cherished method to kick off the holiday season,” said the event host, in a decidedly positive message.

“It represents the essence of Miami: happy, varied, and rooted in traditions that unite the community. Every time, we are proud to celebrate culture and compassion in a way distinctively Miamian.”

Participants enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach croquetas and Cuban coffee as they toasted Six Seven’s big moment.
