Jennifer Lawrence Says Mentioning Donald Trump Would ‘Worsen the Situation’ Dividing the Country Apart

Jennifer Lawrence has declared that she believes it's no longer appropriate to speak out regarding the Trump presidency, worried it could intensify polarizing arguments and increase separation throughout the country.

‘I Don’t Really Know If I Should’, Notes the Actress

In a recent interview, she shared, “When Trump was first in office, I thought I was running around like a chicken with my head cut off. But it’s become clear, election after election, Hollywood stars fail to influence in any way on electoral choices.”

She continued, “So then what am I doing? I’m just expressing personal views on something that’s going to heighten conflict that’s ripping the nation apart.”

Changing Allegiances

Lawrence has previously been open about supporting Republican and Democratic presidential nominees in past elections. Raised by a right-leaning family in Kentucky, she cast her ballot for the Republican nominee in 2008 before joining the left-leaning politics and revealing she understood during the Obama era that backing conservatives was undermining her individual liberties as a woman.

Past Statements

Earlier in her career, she stated that Donald Trump’s election would be “a catastrophic event” and backed the Democratic candidate in the 2020 presidential race. In the latest campaign, she voiced her backing to Vice President Harris, “since I feel she’s an excellent choice and I trust that she will take all necessary steps to safeguard women’s health rights.”

Hollywood’s Stance

Lawrence was supported by most of Hollywood in her opposition to the former president as a presidential contender, but the lack of leverage public figures have over the public choices was emphasized by his election win.

“Another four years seems distinct,” noted Lawrence of Trump’s presidency. “Since he stated his intentions. We were aware of his actions for his first term. He was very clear. And voters made that decision.”

Current Projects

The actor is discussing the drama, the filmmaker’s movie in which she plays a recent parent who deals with her psychological well-being in a remote area. During a media event for the movie in Venice, Lawrence spoke about the conflict in Gaza: “I feel fear. It’s devastating. What’s taking place is equivalent to a genocide and it’s horrible.”

Additional Thoughts

Lawrence added by saying that she was disappointed by “the disrespect in the discussions of U.S. political debates right now and how that is going to be normalised to the younger generation right now. It’s going to be typical to them that leaders are untruthful.”

The actor aimed to shift frustration about the situation to policymakers rather than actors and artists. “Concentrate on those accountable,” she advised, in what many took to be a reference to the then-recent pledge endorsed by more than 4,000 arts community members to avoid specific industry bodies.

Relatable Experiences

Lawrence, who won an Oscar aged 22 for her part in her breakout movie, is attracting awards attention for her portrayal in the new film. Although Ramsay has disputed the narrative being interpreted as one of maternal mental health issues and mental illness, the actress shared that she did relate to parts of her film narrative after the birth of her youngest child, soon after production wrapped.

“There was concern regarding my baby,” she commented, “envisioning every potential danger, and then second-guessing everything that I was doing. I was already in therapy, but I started taking a treatment called Zurzuvae and I continued it for a short period and it was effective.”

Professional Experiences

Lawrence also discussed of the liberating necessity of completing nude scenes in the movie while she was some months pregnant and limited physically.

“It’s refreshing,” she commented, regarding the need to abandon insecurities. “Honestly, I occasionally wonder where I’m like, How exactly do I differ between myself and a sex worker? But it doesn’t trouble me deeply.”
