Citizens have come together across the country to mark the second anniversary since the Hamas-initiated attack on October 7th, 2023, as talks proceeded in the neighboring country over a conclusion to the war in the Gaza Strip.

The incident led to over 1,200 people losing their lives and 251 others abducted away to Gaza as hostages. It was the single most fatal day for Jewish people since the World War II.

Israel reacted by beginning a defensive operation in Gaza which has claimed over 67,000 people, based on figures from the region's Hamas-controlled health ministry. Its numbers are seen as accurate by the UN and other global organizations.

"Our aggressive adversaries have caused great damage, but they have not broken us," the prime minister stated on that day.

He also vowed to "achieve all the aims of the war: the release of all the captured, the elimination of the Hamas government and the assurance that Gaza will not pose a danger to Israel".

Commemorative Ceremonies Across Israel

The Israeli government delayed state memorials until October 16th - after the conclusion of the Jewish High Holiday season - but gatherings still occurred around the country on Tuesday.

A remembrance service for the loved ones of people who died in the Hamas attack was conducted in Tel Aviv. Organized by the victims' relatives, it was broadcast across Israeli television channels.

Some time earlier, a moment of silence was observed throughout the country.

Negotiation Discussions in Egypt

Simultaneously, the conflicting parties' delegations gathered in the North African coastal city of the negotiation venue for a follow-up session of third-party negotiations to review the provisions of the agreement.

A high-ranking representative knowledgeable about the discussions revealed that an night meeting of indirect talks commenced at 7 PM local time.

The official stated the morning session ended without concrete outcomes, because of differences over the recommended Israeli retreat arrangements from Gaza and over safeguards Hamas wants to ensure Israel does not resume hostilities after the initial stage of the arrangement.

He commented that the negotiations are "difficult and have yet to produce any significant progress," but noted that intermediaries are striving to reduce the differences between the both parties.

Critical Points in Negotiations

  • A permanent ceasefire
  • The swap of the captives still held by Hamas for inmates from Gaza
  • The pullout of troops from Gaza
  • Arrangements for relief supplies provision
  • Future governance of the region

Citizen Feeling

In the city's Hostages Square that day, 29-year-old Hagar - whose brother endured the attack on the Nova music festival, where 378 people were killed and dozens more were taken hostage by Hamas gunmen - shared: "No place appears as home any longer and until every captive are released not a single person will have peace of mind."

"When we see everybody home once more, we can relax anew. Then we can begin to recover," she continued.

In front of the prime minister's home in the capital, people congregated to demonstrate their solidarity for the loved ones of the hostages. Israel says nearly fifty remain in detention in Gaza, twenty of whom are believed to be living.

Protester a participant explained: "We need do whatever arrangement needed for the captives to come back home. But we truly desire assurances that we will be secure."

Opinion polls now regularly indicate that approximately the majority of Israeli citizens want the hostilities to end in exchange for the freedom of the abducted.

Gaza Situation

At the area of the gathering, grieving people gathered to honor the dead.

From there, the boom of military attacks and shelling could be detected just a few kilometres away in Gaza, where witnesses indicated the intense Israeli bombardment persisted.

In the urban center, attacks were reported in the early hours of Tuesday in the western district, sector and zone neighbourhoods and in the eastern neighbourhood of Sheikh Radwan, as well the camp to the northwestern area.

"When the night comes, the fear comes with it," evacuated urban resident Emaan al-Wahidi, whose young son was killed by an Israeli bombing earlier, described.

"Me and my three children are terrified of the bombings. During nighttime we are resting together, clinging, notably my smallest child who places his head on me the entire evening."

"Constantly we look at the news to see developments. And I'm concerned that this truce will not be achieved and that the fighting will return to us."

Humanitarian Situation

The healthcare center in Gaza City announced it had accepted the remains of six people by the daytime, including three killed in an Israeli attack in the southern al-Sabra neighbourhood.

Another medical facility in the southern urban center of that area indicated two more fatalities had been brought there. A person was lost his life by Israeli forces while seeking aid to the southern area, medics said.

The region's health ministry announced a significant number of the {territ
